Failure is Potential

In a recent podcast on Freakonomics Radio called "How the supermarket helped America" the discussion was on how the supermarket changed the playing field for consumption. I will base this info on that podcast. I found the podcast interesting not necessarily on the topics of Russia, the cold war or production outright, but I thought it is a case study for African countries and many of the bottle-necks found there. I found the following argumentation interesting: Due to an overproduction of wheat and corn, it caused the US government to having to stockpile them, after giving buying guarantees. Since production became ever more efficient due to science on the one hand, such as bigger broilers and mechanization, such as tractors, on the other. So farmers started giving excess production to cattle, pigs and chicken, where today 30% of corn and 50% of soy is used for animal feed. So I was reading up on egg alternatives and found some cool stuff.

I’m a little annoyed, because even though everyone talks about electric cars and emissions, reality is in stark reality.  The total of ALL electric cars in Germany is just below 200,000 (2018) from a total of 50,000,000 cars. On the other hand SUVs make up over 30% of all new cars (up thru 2019) totaling just over 1m by years end of 3m new cars in 2019. I’ll admit the Model 3 seems to be selling, although 6,000 cars compared to the top 5 selling nearly a million cars already, is barely a drop on the hot stone.   Then all these SUVs want to drive on the Autobahn at 200km/h (124mph). With data like this it makes more sense to drive a 991 GT3 or Ferrari F8 than an Q7, GLE or X5. They spew less C02, brake better (50m sooner), need less space (1/3) and all are driven by lone drivers anyway.   It’s not going to change soon as most can’t afford an electric car or live in an apartment making it (E-Bikes are more likely). It does not mean I am a vegetarian or vegan, but I have tried some of the alternatives and they are vast improvements from standard tofu based alternatives, that don't even come close.
